Julie Walker portrayed by model Kristen!
It was an exhaustive search to try and find the right person to play the part of Julie Walker. There were several girls that fit the part as far as height, weight, and age range, but as with all searches for roles, you run into all kinds of attitudes as well. When searching for the right person to play a role of a character, it truly is like searching for a needle in a haystack, and although they may look the part, being able to portray that character is a whole different ball game. Thank goodness we found Kristen, I had almost given up!
Just when I was about to throw my hands up, and forget finding someone to play Julie, I happened to walk into a local Halloween store that over the years I had purchased costume parts, and props for Dragon Con. During a conversation with one of the owners, they mentioned that one of their employees was a sometimes costumer, and might possibly be interested in doing the shoot. When Kristen walked up and introduced herself, I knew instantly I had found our Julie Walker! After we started talking, I soon realized that she and I both had mutual friends, and one was a local comic store owner I had known for some time.
Tall, articulate, and very well versed in the comics genre, Kristen has a very commanding presence. It's no wonder that she was the spokesperson for the Halloween store every year when the television cameras started rolling for the interviews. Although Kristen had never actually been to a comic-con at the time, she was no stranger to Cosplay. Years before companies started making female Freddy Kruger costumes, she was wearing her home made female version every year around Halloween!
After a week or so I received a call from Kristen, and fortunately for us she had decided to do the role of Julie Walker for us. after moving around our schedules, and waiting out the rain, we decided on a Saturday morning. Kelly and I were very pleased to have had her playing Julie. Kellye unfortunately did not get to meet Kristen due to the photo schedules that day, and missed each other by about half an hour.
Kristen fell into character almost immediately, and was very patient with me during the shoot. Our regular Photographer, Magestiq, was out of town, and I had a new digital camera I had never used before, so I had to wing on my own that day!
Kristen even wore a purple eye shadow that day to match the costume!

We hope to be working with Kristen again in the near future to tell the Julie Walker origin story in a flashback sequence with the current Phantom. We are excited about the upcoming photo project, and will keep everyone posted here on our site!
